Regeneration programme put in place for 'affordable' housing in Middlesbrough

A major regeneration programme is being put in place for the first phase of a new housing development.

The two, three and four-bedroomed properties will provide affordable homes for low-cost rent and also buying part with shared ownership - where people can buy a percentage of a new home.

Ian Wardle, chief executive at Thirteen, said: “We’re really pleased to have started work on these new homes, which will address the demand for affordable housing in Middlesbrough.

“It’s a fantastic housing and regeneration project which will bring investment to the area and create local jobs during construction.

The new housing on Bishopton Road, Grove Hill will offer modern house designs aiming to suit a range of requirements.

The 92-home development, which is being delivered by Thirteen, is being built by construction and regeneration specialist, Galliford Try Partnerships North, with support funding from Homes England will provide much-needed homes for local people in Middlesbrough.

Councillor Lewis Young, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for economic development and infrastructure, added: “Middlesbrough is fast becoming a place people want to invest, work and live in…

“A diverse housing offer plays a vital role in our strategy to attract businesses and people to our city, as well as provide good quality homes to our current residents. Providing affordable housing is an especially important component to our overall housing strategy.”

This is the latest development in Middlesbrough from Thirteen who are building 2,000 new affordable homes across the Tees Valley and beyond over the next few years.

The new homes are expected to be available from spring 2019.
