Haberdashery brand returns to Stockton with new Bishopton Lane store

Fabrics and haberdashery retailer Panico’s is making a return to Stockton.

The company has signed up for 5,000 sq ft on the ground floor of Bishopton House, located at 16 Bishopton Lane.

Panico’s once operated shops in Middlesbrough, Darlington and Stockton along with market stalls across Teesside and North Yorkshire.

The last Panico’s closed its doors 10 years ago, but Elizabeth Panico, daughter of founder Joan Panico, is reviving the brand with husband Carl Mellor.

For the last seven years, the business has traded in the town’s Castlegate Shopping Centre as Cottoncloth Fabric.

The new Stockton store will serve as a one-stop shop for sewing and knitting needles. It will also house an in-house coffee shop and suite of classrooms for crafting workshops.

Carl said: “We know that there is a massive demand for sewing, knitting and crafting workshops, but we just couldn’t offer them at our old location. This new site at Bishopton House is perfect.”

Middlesbrough-based property consultancy Dodds Brown let the unit to Panico’s

Letting agent Richard Wilson, senior associate partner at Dodds Brown, commented: “Situated at Maxwell’s Corner, close to the Globe Theatre redevelopment and to Wellington Square Shopping Centre, Bishopton House is a prominent good sized, well located building in an improving leisure pitch.”

Dodds Brown has been tasked with marketing a further 6,910 sq ft of commercial space on the upper two floors of Bishopton House.

Richard continued: “The ground floor will be idea for Panico’s business and training workshops, while the upper floors could be used for a variety of purposes including office accommodation.”
