New medical centre to boost healthcare capacity in Barnsley

A new £3.25m medical facility is to open its doors in Barnsley town centre next month, creating capacity for 4,000 extra patients in the area.

The 40,000 sq ft Burleigh Medical Centre, situated on Burleigh Street, will combine two existing GP surgeries operated by the Park Grove General Partnership. The group says it’s opening the new centre to improve the efficiency of its local healthcare services.

The new site will include an on-site pharmacy, a large car park, and 1,000 sq ft available to let by allied healthcare providers. The partnership is also expecting to take on five new staff in the next 12 months to support the expansion.

Dr Sumanth Chikthimmah, general practitioner for the Park Grove General Partnership, commented: “We’re excited to build on our surgeries’ excellent reputation for providing a high standard of healthcare.

“Relocating the two sites under one roof means being able to provide improved services and facilities in a convenient and accessible town-centre location. This exciting project, which has been many years in the making, will be a huge boost for the people of Barnsley.”

The move has been made possible by funding from Lloyds Bank, which also helped the group to acquire the necessary land and plan the new site.

The company’s healthcare banking consultant, Malcolm Swan said: “The Park Grove General Partnership is a clear example of a thriving healthcare provider growing to meet the increased needs of patients across the region.

“Our recent Healthcare Index has revealed that confidence amongst GPs is at its highest level for five years, with many practices merging and looking ahead to growth. It’s important for Lloyds Bank to support projects like this as part of our mission to help Britain prosper, and we’re pleased that our team of specialist healthcare managers were able to help this business expand.”
