New appointments as Northamptonshire business invests in the future

A Northamptonshire company is consolidating its growth with two new appointments which strengthen the business following a half-a-million-pound investment in updated machinery. Scotts of Thrapston, a high-quality timber product manufacturer for 98 years, has appointed a new production manager, Ian Latham, following the installation of a new CNC Router earlier this year, together with Tom Barfield, who has joined the company as a new joinery sales manager. The family-run business is known for its specialist timber products, including summerhouses, stables, garages, car barns, pavilions, roof trusses, engineered flooring, doors, windows, bespoke joinery and education and community buildings. Managing Director James Scott said: “As we approach our centenary, we are continuing to look ahead and invest in the future. By bringing in such talent and experience, we can capitalise fully on our major factory investment and are safeguarding our business for the long term.” Ian brings with him a wealth of experience having worked for 35 years in the timber, joinery and furniture trade, including 25 years with his father’s family business. He has also worked abroad in Africa and more recently for a German company, project managing large installations of joinery and furniture production lines all over the world. He said: “Working abroad is a fantastic experience, but I wanted to come home. I have taken my time to find the right job and eventually this one arose. The fact it is a family business really appeals as it has a traditional history, but the future is being embraced in modernising the buildings and shop floor as well as the factory technology. “I have a real enthusiasm for the job and the industry and aim to focus on efficiency, quality and future-proofing an excellent long-standing company.” Tom, who has broad experience in the timber window and door industry, commented: “I have known about Scotts’ reputation and its strong brand for years and to become part of it, as it approaches its 100th year, just felt like a wonderful opportunity and I am excited about the plans for the future.
“There has been considerable recent investment and strengthening of the senior management team and I really wanted to be a part of it. I’m here to grow sales and I’m hugely excited at the prospect – it’s a very sound base to work from, as my colleagues have years of experience and knowledge in estimating, project management and joinery manufacture.”
