Henry Boot Construction to deliver new build block at Longcroft School

A turf cutting ceremony attended by local dignitaries and stakeholders has marked the start of a new build project on behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council at Longcroft School and Sixth Form College in Beverley.

The project is the first Henry Boot Construction will be delivering under the Department for Education’s £4.4 billion Priority School Building Programme (PSBP). The programme is designed to support the rebuild or refurbishment of school buildings that are in the poorest condition throughout the country. The company has been appointed to deliver schemes in the medium value band (£4.5m - £12m) of the PSBP that will span four years and includes 22 different lots.

Henry Boot Construction will be delivering the project in partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Simon Carr, Managing Director of Henry Boot Construction, explains: “We are delighted to have secured work for three lots within the medium value band that will see us fulfil educational projects across the North East, Yorkshire, East Midlands and the North West regions over the next four years.

“Longcroft School and Sixth Form College currently extends across two separate sites. The objective of this particular project is to construct a brand new block that will unite the school and facilitate the provision of modern teaching and learning spaces with all the latest resources.”

“The new block will comprise a Learning Resource Centre and the school’s existing history, geography and science departments will also relocate to the new building which will be completed by the end of October this year.”

Commenting on the project, East Riding of Yorkshire Council Leader Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE said: “This development will give the school a fantastic new building, which will bring the whole school together on one site and it will provide superb new facilities for students and staff.”

Andy Baker, Deputy Headteacher from Longcroft School and Sixth Form College concludes: “We are delighted to be working with the DfE and Henry Boot Construction on this exciting project, and look forward to the transformational effect the new building and being on one site will have on our school.”
