Autumn, the most popular time of the year to show ‘employee appreciation’ amongst Brits, Perkbox finds
With today being Employee Appreciation Day, Perkbox, Europe’s fastest growing employee experience platform, has set off to uncover some of the most popular trends around reward and recognition used by UK businesses to showcase ‘employee appreciation’. Perkbox Recognition data over the last 10 months was used for this.
With a sample of 2,810 companies, the research found that the most popular day to recognise staff since April 2018, was the 5th of October and the day where the most companies set Perkbox recognition polls open ended question which employees vote on to pick a winner was the 27th November.
But as a whole, businesses have been quite good at recognising staff throughout the year too. A whopping 11,837 shout outs were made over the course of the 10 months, in just this sample group. Meaning on average, businesses have been recognising employees for their hard work and good actions at least once every two month.
Nearly 60% of those who recognise frequently are mediumsized businesses belonging to the tech and IT (25%) and manufacturing and construction (23%) industries. Mondays and Wednesdays are the most popular days of the week for recognising employees, with peak times of the day being the morning (9am), and the end of the day (5pm).
Amongst the most popular recognition polls created using Perkbox Recognition throughout the year are ‘Unsung hero’, ‘Ray of Sunshine’ and ‘Motivator’ showcasing how soft skills are slowly gaining traction in the workplace.
Chieu Cao, Cofounder of Perkbox says: “It’s interesting to see how Autumn is the season in which we recognise employees the most in the UK. Perhaps this is to do with the proximity to the end of the year, making it easier to take a step back, assess what’s been achieved and recognise accordingly.
“Whatever the reason, we must break with the common misconception that motivation in the workplace is only driven by a pay cheque, taking all the steps possible to showcase ‘employee appreciation’ throughout the entire year, particularly as we look to encourage other, less traditional skill sets in our staff, such as the much needed soft skills”.
Apprenticeship training and recruitment company, Lifetime Training Ltd deserve a shout out on this day for being the Perkbox customer that has recognised its employees the most.
