London and Berlin sign on for landmark city partnership
London has announced a city-to-city partnership with Berlin to promote trade and investment between the two European capitals.
Led by the two cities’ economic development agencies London & Partners and Berlin Partner, the partnership aims to help companies in both capitals with expansion and making international business connections.
The agencies will be focusing on providing support for scale-up companies in both regions, as well as focusing on the development of fintech, big data, internet of things (IoT) and creative industries.
In addition to the signing of the landmark partnership agreement, today saw the opening of Berlin’s first London & Partners’ office by London’s deputy mayor for business and chairman of London & Partners, Rajesh Agrawal.
Speaking about the partnership, Rajesh said: “London and Berlin are two of the world’s leading hubs for technology, innovation and creativity. We see lots of opportunities for collaboration, especially in fast growing areas such as fintech and smart cities.”
The partnership comes as the impact of Brexit on international trade dominates discussion in the UK and abroad.
Rajesh continued: “Today’s agreement with the city of Berlin and the opening of our first office in Germany demonstrates London’s desire to work with likeminded, outward looking business hubs.
“Brexit or no Brexit, we want to show the world that London is open for business, talent and investment from across the world.”
