New bar and brewery opens in Hull’s Fruit Market quarter
New craft beer bar and brewery Taphouse Brewpub has opened its doors in the resurgent Fruit Market quarter in Hull.
Located on Humber Street, the venue has its own on-site brewery as well as a bar, and will host events such as live music, comedy nights and beer tastings.
The craft beer establishment is the latest to join the burgeoning Fruit Market area of the city, which is already home to venues such as Minerva pub and Humber Street Distillery Co. gin bar.
Owned by Yorkshire Brewing Company’s Guy Falkingham and local licensee Lee Kirman, Taphouse Brewpub has created 12 full and part-time jobs and will team with local artisan brewing business Bone Machine Brew Co to create new craft flavours in the working brewery.
To transform the former fruit and veg warehouse into a bar and working brewery, Guy and Lee invested over £150k into the business. Speaking about the new venture, Guy commented: “We’re so excited to bring our brewpub concept to the Fruit Market.
“We believe our customers will love the look, feel and atmosphere and really enjoy having a sociable drink or two in the bar while our brewers work in the same building.”
The Fruit Market regeneration is being driven by Wykeland Beal as part of the Fruit Market LLP joint venture with Hull City Council, and has transformed the waterside area into a desirable location for local independent businesses.
Tom Watson, Development Surveyor for Wykeland, said: “It’s great that Taphouse Brewpub has opened in a building that has been completely renovated and brought back to life, through our extensive conservation works and Guy and Lee’s impressive refurbishment and fit-out.”
He continued: “We’re passionate about supporting local, independent business to flourish in the Fruit Market and this is another prime example of delivering on that commitment.”
