£1bn housing investment to create up to 6,000 North East jobs
Housing association Thirteen has announced plans to invest over £1bn which will create up to 6,000 jobs in the region.
Thirteen’s strategic plan for 2019 to 2024 involves the construction of new homes across the North East as well as the improvement of existing properties, neighbourhoods and support services.
The plan will also include initiatives to help 2,000 local people into training or employment, and offering 300 apprenticeships to residents.
Ian Wardle, Chief Executive at Thirteen said: “We will deliver a £1billion investment over the next five years to improve our customer’s homes, their local neighbourhoods and their services, as well as delivering new affordable homes.
“Our ambitious construction plans will create thousands of jobs and hundreds of apprenticeship opportunities that will benefit local people. It’s a very exciting time for us, our customers and for the region as a whole.”
The announcement has been welcomed by Thirteen customers, with chair of the company’s customer engagement group Val Scollen explaining: “I’ve been a Thirteen customer for 19 years and have seen the difference the company has already made to neighbourhoods.
“This investment plan is great news for us as customers, showing that Thirteen is as committed as ever to providing quality homes, neighbourhoods and a high level of support that goes way beyond just being a landlord.”
