I’Anson partners with Glasgow University for PhD research

Masham-based animal feed manufacturer, I’Anson Brothers Ltd, has committed to a research partnership with Glasgow University, paving the way for a three-year project looking at how technology can aid and advance animal nutrition.

The PhD research initially began in 2017, when I’Anson partnered with Professor Jo-Anne Murray at Glasgow University’s College of Medical Veterinary & Life Sciences and follows a successful partnership investigating the effect of FibreBeet on gastric ulcers.

I’Anson has a long history of innovation, with its Speedi-Beet product developed to provide a more convenient way of feeding horses; reducing the typical 24 hours soaking required for normal sugar beet products, to just 10 minutes.

The latest research with Glasgow University focuses on how the micronization process, which changes the internal structure, improving the digestibility of a range of raw materials. The results from this research will be used by I’Anson to continue its ongoing development across its range of equine, dairy and beef cattle, sheep and lamb animal feeds.

Chris I’Anson, Managing Director at I’Anson said: “This new research programme is a key part of our commitment to continually developing and innovating as we seek to give our customers the best possible products. It is an exciting time for the company, and we are extremely proud to be partnering with Glasgow University on this project.”

Professor Jo-Anne Murray said: “At the University of Glasgow we are always very keen to work with industrial partners. We are delighted to be working with I’Anson who are funding a PhD student with the university and we greatly value their commitment to supporting research in animal nutrition.”

The research project is set to conclude in 2020.
