Global management firm to boost growth of landmark Newcastle hotel
Global hotel management company Interstate Hotels & Resorts has been appointed to take over Newcastle’s Crowne Plaza hotel as part of a growth strategy.
Hotel owner Clouston Group has worked with the Newcastle City Council and RBS to appoint the management firm, as part of a drive to boost sales and build on the increased demand for visitor and business accommodation.
Speaking about the appointment, Richard Clouston, CEO of Clouston Group, explained: “This has enabled us to fast-track the move to franchise and we’re delighted to appoint a world-leading hotel management company following a stringent selection process agreed with our colleagues at Newcastle City Council.”
The move will see Interstate manage the day-to-day operations of the 251-bedroom four-star hotel, which is based in Newcastle’s Stephenson Quarter development near the train station.
By appointing Interstate, Clouston Group hope to capitalise on the growth of the area’s leisure, tourism and hospitality market, which was estimated to be worth £1.62bn to the local economy in 2017.
Richard continued: “The team allocated by Interstate is first-rate and as owners, we’re working closely with them to ensure the business is optimised, providing the very best for our valued customers and guests from the region and around the globe.
“The Crowne Plaza at Stephenson Quarter is the cornerstone of the development and a catalyst for future phases, creating many more jobs and opportunities in the hospitality sector.”
