Leeds M&E firm to bring historic building back to life

G&H Building Services has secured a contract to revive the former Registry of Deeds archive building on behalf of Wakefield College.

The year-long regeneration project will see mechanical and electrical services installed to aid learners with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Based in Leeds, G&H Building Services has experience of delivering historic redevelopment schemes such as preserving the legacy of the Grade II listed building for University of Leeds’ School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies.

The development builds on the ongoing regeneration of Wakefield’s civic quarter, which has included work at the City Museum, the Jubilee Gardens development on the former County Hall annexe site and the redesign of Castrop-Rauxel Square.

G&H Building Services senior contracts manager, Paul Cuss, commented: “This is an exciting and challenging project requiring us to sympathetically transform the building by adding state-of-the-art technology while preserving an array of original features.

“Once complete, people using the facility will enjoy the latest mechanical and electrical features specifically designed to provide the best environment for learning in the setting of an elegant, historic building full of character.”
