Sunderland childrenswear firm to create jobs after expanding into digital hub

An independent childrenswear retailer is set to create up to 12 new jobs following the opening of a new office in one of the city’s digital hubs.

Designer Childrenswear, which specialises in luxury clothing and accessories for children, has opened a new office at Sunderland Software Centre, after seeing an increase in demand for its products from overseas markets such as the UAE, the US, China and Japan.

Established over 30 years ago, the company has chosen the new 353 sq ft office to expand its operations, including plans to hire up to 12 new members of staff in roles such as content creation, digital marketing and e-commerce.

E-commerce manager Dionne Evans, explained: “We have worked tirelessly and invested heavily in growing the digital side of the company over recent years but even we are surprised at the rate at which it has grown.

“For the first time last year, we witnessed a huge international growth and are now increasingly selling more and more products to customers overseas.

“The opening of this new, dedicated office, means we can centralise all of our digital activity and continue growing this side of the business which has huge potential for further expansion.”

Sunderland City Council chief executive, Patrick Melia, added: “Designer Childrenswear is a fantastic success story for the city and we’re delighted that they’ve chosen Sunderland Software Centre as home for their new digital hub.

“We wish them all the luck for the future and will continue to support the company in any way we can as it furthers its development.”
