Corporate sponsor adds weight to homeless charity’s diamond event
A West-Yorkshire based homelessness charity has announced the headline sponsor for its fifth annual Rough Diamond Ball.
Simon on the Streets, which offers support to local people in Bradford, Leeds and Huddersfield will partner with Leeds-based solicitors, Weightmans, to host the charity event on 13th June 2019.
Businesses and corporate partners will join Simon on the Streets and Weightmans for an evening of food, drinks and entertainment at the Hilton Leeds City Hotel.
The event, which traditionally holds a diamond raffle, allows attendees the opportunity to purchase tickets to win a genuine rough diamond to turn it into jewellery of their choosing.
All funds raised at the event will go towards Simon on the Streets’ essential work in the region, which includes street-based support for people affected by homelessness.
Weightmans selected Simon on the Streets as its charity partner of the year in 2018 and have continued the relationship into 2019, by supporting the organisation’s fundraising efforts via the Rough Diamond Ball.
Based at Westgate Point in Leeds city centre, Weightmans provides a full range of legal services, to both businesses and individuals in the UK.
Simon on the Streets’ development manager, Fahad Khan commented:
“We rely on the kind donations of our corporate supporters and the general public in order to operate. It’s an absolute pleasure to have Weightmans on board as our headline sponsor this year and to know that they recognise how crucial the work we conduct really is.
“Having the backing of businesses in the region is essential for us to continue combatting the issues of homelessness. The Rough Diamond Ball has proved a great success in the past; raising more than £8,000 in 2018. This allowed us to provide essential emotional and practical support to those that need it and who cannot access mainstream services.
“We’re very much looking forward to welcoming our guests to the Hilton in June for an evening of networking and entertainment.”
Regional head and partner at Weightmans, Leeds Helen Brown added:
“It was important to us to support a local charity that could really make a difference in the region. It’s quite clear that the work Simon on the Streets conducts has a huge impact on people affected by homelessness in West Yorkshire and we’re keen to be a part of that.
“As our nominated charity in 2018, we felt that we wanted to continue to support Simon on the Streets in any way we could, and when the opportunity to become the headline sponsor for the Rough Diamond Ball presented itself to us, it seemed like an ideal way for us to remain involved.
“We’ve been fortunate enough to witness the incredible rapport that the organisation has built with the people of Leeds. We’re incredibly proud and committed to raising awareness about Simon on the Streets and helping to raise funds where possible.”
