Independent cinema launches crowdfunding campaign to support expansion

A North Tyneside cinema has launched a crowdfunding campaign to fund unveiled plans to expand its venue and enhance its existing offering.

Jam Jar Cinema, which is based in Whitley Bay, has launched its crowdfunding campaign today to support plans to create two additional screens, a new bar and community space, as well as improving the site’s accessibility.

Planned works include the relocation of the cinema’s main entrance, lift installation, as well as the creation of two new wheelchair accessible screens, a bar, community space and an accessible toilet.

To facilitate the venue’s extension, the new screen will be constructed on the site of the former jobcentre, above the vacant ex-Post Office and McColl’s outlet on Park Avenue, which has a planning application for a new gym pending.

Jam Jar Cinema’s founder and managing director Dan Ellis commented: “As a local business we are determined to include everybody, and our expansion plans this year will deliver this.
