North East motor firm boosts growth plans with launch of new division

A Washington electric motor repair firm is preparing to expand its team after launching a new division.

Wearside Rewinds and Services has introduced a drainage division to meet increasing demand for drainage repairs, with plans to create new jobs this year as part of the expansion.

Founded over 30 years ago, the company is hoping that the launch of its new drainage division and the growth of its team will help to attract new large customers, as well as provide an enhanced service to existing clients.

Owner Darren Burton explained: “We’ve gone from 400 sq. ft in our first plant, to 4000 sq. ft in our current plant at Hertburn Industrial Estate, Washington.

“We now have 12 employees and will be taking on another two or three this year because of the growth of our drainage repair work.”

Wearside Rewinds and Services has worked with suppliers of the nearby Nissan plant, as well as clients such as Sunderland Royal Hospital, Sunderland Eye Infirmary, Newcastle College, Northumbria University and Sunderland City Council, the latter of which has supported the company’s expansion plans through its business investment team.
