North Shields waterfront restaurant set to make a splash

A brand new restaurant is set to be the first commercial venture to open its doors in a North Shields waterfront neighbourhood.

Following the announcement of the venture last month, 31 The Quay will officially open for business at the new Smith’s Dock neighbourhood this Friday (June 21).

Situated adjacent to the River Tyne, the restaurant - headed up by former Biscuit Factory chef Andrew Wilkinson - will offer a range of dishes including meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan options.

Andrew explained: “We absolutely cannot wait to open the doors of 31 The Quay on Friday. We’re all so proud to be bringing this concept to North Shields and cannot wait to share our passion with the people in the community, and of course for them to sample what’s on offer.

“It’s great to be the first business here; we are very confident and excited about what’s to come as this neighbourhood continues its transformation.”

The Smith’s Dock development, led by developers Urban Splash and Places for People, will bring more than 800 homes, workspaces, green spaces and public amenities to the area, with a range of townhouses, ‘fab houses’ and waterfront smokehouses apartments already completed.

Emily Handslip, director of commercial lettings at Urban Splash, commented: “With the first residential phases complete, I am really pleased we have now welcomed the first of many commercial occupiers to this scheme.

“I love this point in a development, where we can begin shaping the future of this community, bringing in brilliant businesses who can contribute to the community.

She added: “31 The Quay is a fabulous venue in an idyllic location – I personally can’t wait to sample Andrew’s menu.”
