Tees Valley engineering partnership launched with plans for Great Exhibition of Tees Valley

A new partnership, Engineering Together, has been launched to promote the region’s engineering, past present and future and to raise the cultural and economic profile of the discipline.

Engineering Together has launched at Ormesby Hall, Middlesbrough, at an event hosted by the RSA. The organisation also introduced its plans for the Great Exhibition of the Tees Valley, a major upcoming, region-wide celebration of all that is new, excellent and engaging in engineering in and around the Tees Valley.

Engineering Together is a unique initiative, created in the Tees Valley which brings together many of the region’s professional engineering institutions, groups and initiatives alongside major national partners including the RSA.

Engineering Together includes the following organisations: • The Institution of Civil Engineers • Engineering UK • The Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation • The Cleveland Institution of Engineers • The Cleveland Scientific Institution • The Institute of Measurement and Control • The Institution of Chemical Engineers • The Institution of Engineering Technology • The Institution of Mechanical Engineers • The Institution of Structural Engineers • The Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) This initiative builds on the recent Great North Engineering Experience, which drew 34,000 visitors, and the established Bring it On event for schools, first run at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light in 2017.

The plans also include a ‘pilot’ version of a Great Exhibition of the Tees Valley in 2020, an echo of the RSA’s Great Exhibition in 1851.

Paula McMahon, Chair of the Teesside branch of the Institution of Civil Engineers, said: “Engineering has been the lifeblood of Teesside and the North East for generations. The ICE is committed to recognising both its legacy and the opportunity it presents. That’s why we’re delighted to be supporting this initiative and hugely exciting exhibition, which seek to raise the profile of engineering and the Tees Valley, positively and constructively.”
