Greggs on a roll with launch of first Newcastle drive-thru
Baked goods retailer Greggs has today (July 11) opened its first drive-thru shop in its hometown of Newcastle.
Located off the A1056 Sandy Lane in North Gosforth, the new outlet will create 20 jobs.
With indoor seating for 40 people as well as 40 seats outside, the drive-thru will offer Greggs’ core product range across the day, including the brand’s famous vegan sausage roll which launched at the start of the year.
The launch of the North Gosforth drive-thru welcomed a vintage ’Sausage Rolls’ first car as its first customer.
Roger Whiteside, chief executive of Greggs, commented: “Since Greggs was founded 80 years ago, we’ve constantly evolved as a business to meet the changing needs of our customers.
“We know that having convenient access to quality food on the go is key, so that’s why we’re opening more stores where our customers want us to be, including more travel locations.
“We’ve experienced high demand from our existing drive-thru shops and we hope to replicate this successful format elsewhere across the UK.”
