Westfield Health celebrates 100 years of supporting the UK’s health and wellbeing

Sheffield-based leading health and wellbeing provider, Westfield Health, is celebrating reaching 100 years in business in 2019. To mark this momentous occasion, the not-for-profit organisation is giving back to its staff, selected charities and the Sheffield community with a host of events and fundraising activities.

Originally founded to support Sheffield’s four hospitals in the aftermath of the First World War, Sheffield-based Westfield Health has evolved into a national organisation that aims to take the UK into a new era of health and wellbeing.

As part of its centenary celebrations, and to further its mission, Westfield Health is donating half a million pounds to a selection of charities across the UK to support vital health and wellbeing provision. These include Ashgate Hospicecare, a local hospice providing care and support across North Derbyshire, Sheffield-based Weston Park Cancer Charity which supports people of all ages who have developed cancer and The Children’s Hospital Charity, which raises money to build a better future for children who visit Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Westfield Health also hosted a charity football match at Bramhall Lane on 29th May which raised over £6,000 for St Luke’s Hospice, a local Sheffield hospice that cares for adults with terminal illnesses, and Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a national charity raising awareness of male suicide.

Westfield Health celebrated its birthday on Wednesday 3rd July, by decorating its offices to commemorate every decade from the past 100 years and opening its doors to local dignitaries, clients, charitable partners and other selected guests to thank them for their continued support. Staff are also being celebrated for their hard work with the opportunity to win prizes in a centenary-themed game and enjoy an afternoon taking part in a talent competition.

Graham Moore, Chairman of Westfield Health, is proud to be part of the organisation’s history. He commented: “Westfield Health has been committed to making a healthy difference since its foundation in 1919, and community is at the heart of this. We are proud to work with organisations and individuals to improve the health and wellbeing of the nation, and we hope that we will have the opportunity to continue doing so for another 100 years.

“Since the 1960s our Charitable Trust has donated over £15 million to the NHS and a huge range of health and wellbeing charities. Our Centenary celebrations offer us a unique opportunity to reflect and celebrate our past and the vision of our predecessors, while also looking to the next 100 years and understanding what we need to do to inspire the nation to take the next steps in its health and wellbeing journey.”
