Work underway on airport business park set to create 2,000 jobs

Construction has begun on a major new development at Newcastle Airport Business Park that is set to bring 2,000 jobs to the region.

Work has started on housing developer Bellway PLC’s new headquarters, with the firm being the first business to join the airport business park.

Bellway’s new energy-efficient base will comprise conference rooms, training facilities and office space, and will employ around 100 staff when completed in 2020.

Tynexe, a joint venture company between Newcastle City Council and Dysart Developments (North East) Ltd, is the developer for the business park, which will provide 175,000 sq ft of office space at the south side of Newcastle Airport’s runway.

Mark Hunt, chief financial officer at Newcastle Airport, commented: “It is very exciting to see work getting underway on what is an important project for the North East.

“I am delighted that one of the North East’s most well-known businesses has chosen Newcastle Airport’s Business Park as the site for their new headquarters. I look forward to seeing the development progress to completion.”

Newcastle City Council’s Cabinet Member for employment and investment, Cllr Ged Bell, who is a member of the Tynexe Board, added: “It’s great news that work has started on Bellway’s new headquarters.

“The wider Airport Business Park will provide employment for 2,000 people making it a major hub for jobs.

“With its superb international connections by air, road and rail, the park will make a big contribution to the region’s economy, and it’s fantastic that a North East company like Bellway will be right at the heart of it.”
