Redcar solicitors and playful pups raise significant funds for women’s aid charity

Cygnet Law, a Redcar-based law firm is celebrating raising more than £1,250 for EVA Women’s Aid at its annual sponsored dog walk.

The walk, which takes place each year along Redcar Beach welcomed ‘everyone and their dogs’ to join the Cygnet Law team for the fundraising stroll by the coast.

Cygnet law matched the funds raised by the dog walkers to bring the total to £1252.30.

The team chose to support EVA Women’s Aid after it was widely reported that the charity had suffered cuts to the funding of its counselling services.

Prior to the final total being calculated, the service secured additional funding to ensure its counselling could continue at its current level until March 2020.

Gemma Brooke, a Solicitor at Cygnet Law, said: “We were delighted to be able to raise more than £1,200 for such a worthy cause through our annual sponsored walk. The team love to do it, as do the dogs, and it’s great to know we’re helping such a fantastic service to keep helping local women.

“Although the charity has recently been granted additional funding for its counselling services, this has just given them breathing space, rather than permanent stability. This demonstrates more than ever the need for the community to rally around to help charities like EVA to continue to provide the services they offer to help and protect vulnerable women.”

Richinda Taylor, CEO of EVA Women’s Aid, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the team at Cygnet Law for choosing us as a charity to support with their annual sponsored dog walk, and I was thrilled to see how much they managed to raise.

“EVA provides an essential service to survivors of domestic violence in Redcar and Cleveland, and the funding cuts proposed were a real threat to the counselling we are able to offer.

“Although we have been granted further funding, we still rely on support through fundraising, and events like the sponsored dog walk are great for raising both money and awareness of our charity.”
