Investment in people and process drives major new clients

Clavis Integrated Display Systems (IDS), a leading British technology manufacturer, formerly based in Wallsend, is continuing their ambitious growth plans with expansion into new designed for purpose premises on the Cobalt Business Park in North Shields. Additional investment in new machinery and fitout costs for their new premises, a total of over £160,000, will further enhance their high-quality product offering.

Recognised as the industry leader for designing and manufacturing belt tension measurement equipment and automotive handbrake setting equipment worldwide, they have carved an enviable reputation as an innovative tech solutions provider to customers across the globe.

Their global reputation is further backed by the recent receipt of the Queen’s Award for Innovation, awarded to those recognised for commercial success as a result of innovation. This particular accolade recognises their Gusto Tool that can detect when a Pre-Opened-Pre-Positioned (POPP) clamp or clipless pre-opened Spring Band Clamps (SBC) has been successfully closed by an operator releasing the self-tensioned component on an automotive production line. The Gusto tool analyses the low-frequency movement of the tool by the operator prior to releasing a clamp, and the high frequency vibration that is caused by the clamp rapidly closing. The Gusto system can be linked to production line tracking systems to ensure that all clamps are successfully clamped into position, an effective error proofing (poka-yoke) solution.

Established almost 40 years ago, IDS produce 95% of their parts in-house via a skilled team of engineers who ensure short lead times, whilst maintaining high quality, to retain competitive advantage.

Their fully equipped machining facilities and manufacturing processes are primed to offer accuracy, supported by a recognised quality system. The company has continuously improved and evolved over the years to design and manufacture a wide range of products, from automated industrial refrigerator doors to bomb disposal robots for police forces and the military.

Most recently, their proven quality and innovative outlook has forged new relationships with several global automotive giants, to provide them with their latest cutting-edge technology in POPP clamp detection tooling.

Mark Errington, director at IDS, explained: “Expanding the business and product portfolio offers major opportunities for us to diversify as a business, ever-evolving to meet the demands of today’s global markets.

“With a strong foothold across engineering and its many sub-sectors, our partnership with new automotive manufacturers is an exciting new chapter for IDS.” Andrew Punton, director at IDS, added: “Facilitating this business growth not only involves significant investment in capital assets such as machinery, it is essential to our scale-up plans to also invest in our people.

“Bringing Solutions Recruitment into the team has energised our recruitment efforts. Their approach to aligning individuals to opportunities matched our growth objectives and has undoubtedly ensured that we’ve been presented with the skilled personnel we need to succeed.”

Solutions Recruitment has been working with IDS for the past 18 months to underpin their growth plans, supporting them to drive forward staffing solutions suited to their business aims and objectives. To date, Solutions have successfully recruited electronics engineers, administrative assistants and CNC machinists to aid the growth of the business from both a business support angle and on the manufacturing floor. The partnership brings efficiencies and significant return on investment to their clients – not just fulfilling vacancies, but augmenting company reputation as well as enhancing the candidate journey.

Adam Knox, principal consultant at Solutions Recruitment, said: “Working collaboratively means so much more than pooling resources for a standalone project – to us, collaboration means creating clarity, solving problems and sharing knowledge; empowering leaders and providing a true consultative dynamic that allows teams to compete and excel.

“Integrated in the client’s business, we invest the time to blend our capabilities to deliver a tailored solution as their recruitment partner. We look forward to continuing to work alongside IDS to underpin their business growth.”

As skills gaps continue to emerge and the demand for specialist skills in short supply remains high, the partnership approach IDS has adopted with Solutions Recruitment is driving efficiencies and benefits for employees and employers alike.
