Lupton Fawcett uses pedal power to boost Yorkshire charities
Employees at Yorkshire law firm Lupton Fawcett have taken on cycling, skydiving and walking challenges to raise money for local charities.
A team led by managing partner Jonathan Oxley conquered the official Sportive race at the UCI Road World Championships in September.
The team completed a 90-mile route around Harrogate and the Yorkshire Dales to kick-start a new charity partnership with Leeds Cares, which supports staff at Leeds Teaching Hospitals to deliver exceptional healthcare, research and innovation.
Further funds were raised by a sweepstake on the result of the Mens’ Elite Road Race, a bake sale of homemade treats and a book exchange.
There was more two-wheeled action at Lupton Fawcett’s York office, where the team set themselves a challenge to cycle the equivalent distance of York to Lindisfarne using a static Watt Bike, on loan from Anytime Fitness.
More than a dozen volunteers put in a shift on the bike to ensure the team recorded the required distance. Their outstanding effort raised important funds for The Island, a charity in York that provides space for children and young people to build their confidence and self-esteem through mentoring and other programmes.
Not be outdone, Linda Eggleton, receptionist at Lupton Fawcett’s Sheffield office, took to the air for a charity skydive in support of MNDA (Motor Neurone Disease Association). Members of the Sheffield team also conquered the charity’s Walk to D’feet 5km walk and held a bake sale to raise further funds.
Jonathan Oxley, managing partner, Lupton Fawcett, said: “Huge congratulations to all of our fundraisers for supporting Leeds Cares, The Island and MNDA, kicking off our new charity partnerships with real intent. We have further fund-raising activities planned, so watch this space!”
