£6.5m first phase of historic mill conversion reaches completion

Work has been completed on the first phase of the conversion of a derelict mill complex in Leeds.

The £6.5m first phase of the transformation of Tingley Mills in the market town of Morley has reached completion.

Dating back to the 1880s, the mill site has been redeveloped by Northern firm MMR Group into a residential development comprising 49 rental apartments, to be marketed by estate agent Dacre, Son & Hartley,

Following the conversion of Tingley Mills’ two main three storey Victorian buildings as part of the first phase, the £5m second phase will start later this year and will see a collection of 22 three and four-bedroom family homes built within the site.

Gavin Townsend, who heads up Dacre, Son & Hartley’s Morley office, commented: “This development is unlike anything Morley or the surrounding area has seen before.

“The quality throughout the whole scheme, from the opulent hotel style marble lobby to the luxurious finish and generous living space in every apartment is exceptional.

“When this is combined with all the original character features that have been restored, such as high beamed ceilings and large windows, and its great location, just a couple of minutes from the M62, it’s easy to see why these apartments are proving so popular.”

Joseph Grunfeld from MMR Group added: “Although a lot of Tingley Mills had fallen into a state of disrepair, we could immediately see its potential and how it fit with our ethos of giving historic buildings a new lease of life and a sustainable future.

“We could also envisage how the site’s original buildings would be fantastic places to live because they’re light, airy and brimming with character.

“We’ve worked hard to create a great design style, paid extraordinary attention to detail and invested heavily in high-quality landscaping featuring lavish natural stone features and heritage lamp posts, and the result is a very special development.”
