New Bristol store marks opening by pledging local charity support

After opening its first store in Bristol recently, a family-run flooring retailer has pledged its support to a local charity which raises funds for hospitals in the city.

The 5,500 square-foot Flooring Superstore opened on the city’s Imperial Retail Park in August, representing an investment of £100,000 and the creation of three new jobs.

The official opening was carried out by Above & Beyond, a charity which supports nine hospitals in Bristol.

Flooring Superstore will be donating flooring for new Above & Beyond projects. Flooring Superstore Manager Nathan Pritchard said: “We were delighted when Above & Beyond accepted our offer to open our first store in Bristol.

“It does an amazing job raising money for projects that make a real difference to patients and their families, so we couldn’t think of a more worthwhile charity to support.

“We’re looking forward to supplying the flooring for one of the new projects.” Gemma Jenkins, Corporate Partnership Officer for Above & Beyond, said: “Each year, we raise £3 million for nine hospitals in Bristol, with the money going towards providing welcoming environments, research, equipment and technology.

“Partnerships with local businesses are central to this and we are thrilled that Flooring Superstore have chosen to support us.”

Bristol was the 14th Flooring Superstore to open in the last few years, with a 15th opening last month in Newton Abbot and a 16th due to open this weekend (19th) in Stockport.

The store is unique in selling an unrivalled range of carpets but also offering a huge choice of other flooring, such as laminate and luxury vinyl tiles and the UK’s largest selection of artificial grass. The latter is designed to meet the growing demand from householders for artificial, rather than real, grass.

Shoppers have access to three brands owned by Connection Flooring - Flooring Superstore, Direct Wood Flooring and Grass Direct.

Nathan added: “Opening in Bristol, and now also in Newton Abbot, has given us a presence for the first time in the south west, which is a strategic area for us.

“We’re thrilled to have a store in a thriving city like Bristol and the reaction to the store from members of the public has been very positive.

“It’s already proving to be one of our busiest stores in the UK.”
