Shulmans Supports Youth Social Mobility

Leeds-based UK 200 corporate law firm, Shulmans LLP, has hosted a series of skills workshops on behalf of the Social Mobility Foundation (SMF) to support and encourage the career progression of young people throughout the region.

The event was part of the SMF’s Aspiring Professionals Programme which is designed to provide young people with an insight into top professions and the skills needed to achieve their career aspirations.

The event, hosted at Shulmans’ Wellington Place office, welcomed sixth form students from the local area who are preparing to apply for internships and further education courses in the coming months.

Students learnt about the opportunities available to them and attended practical workshops with Shulmans colleagues to develop their skills and enhance their work experience. A CV workshop focused on helping students to understand how to structure their CVs and provided useful tips on what employers look for in prospective employees. Mock interviews then allowed the students to gain experience and confidence in a professional interview environment. The workshops highlighted the importance of transferable skills and understanding of how any experience can be applied to a work environment.

Sarah Crossan, Aspiring Professionals Programme Coordinator at the SMF, said: “It was fantastic to welcome students from across the region to take part in our skills sessions and career workshops. It’s great that prestigious organisations, such as Shulmans, are supporting the Aspiring Professionals Programme and offering students the opportunity to gain experience in the legal profession.”
