Beyond Housing supports Scarborough community furniture store

Beyond Housing has donated £500 to the Community Furniture Store in Scarborough Formed on 1 October 2018, Beyond Housing is marking its first birthday by donating £500 to ten charities and community groups across the footprint it operates in, spanning from Redcar and Cleveland to Scarborough. The Community Furniture Store is a volunteer-driven charity focused on supporting the local community by offering discounted and affordable second-hand furniture to people in need. Originally founded in 2015, the store has its own workshops equipped to test, repair and upcycle furniture and electrical appliances. The workshops also provide training, work experience and wellbeing programmes for people who are long-term unemployed or who face barriers to employment.

Andy Waites, Community Furniture Stores Chief Officer, said: “I’d like to thank Beyond Housing for this kind donation which will help us to continue offering training places to people who are out of work in the local area. It will also enable us to keep our prices affordable for our customers”.

Tracy O’Neill, Executive Director of Customers and Communities at Beyond Housing, said: “At Beyond Housing, we’re committed not just to delivering high quality homes that people choose to live in, but to enriching and enhancing our communities too. “The Community Furniture Store in Scarborough, like our own Re:Furnish enterprise in Saltburn, provides an invaluable resource for people moving into a home, with a limited budget. “It also offers some fantastic training and volunteering opportunities to help people to learn valuable skills that will support them into employment. I’m delighted we can make a contribution to this important work.”
