On The Sixth Day Of Business: The Boldon firm helping parents one baby step at a time

In the spirit of geese-a-laying, for the sixth day of Bdaily’s 12 Days of Business we’ve gone back to where it all begins - looking at all things ‘baby’.

Pregnancy, birth and child-rearing has sparked a great deal of invention and innovation, as entrepreneurs and companies alike continually strive to find solutions to the challenges of parenthood.

We had a chat with the team at Nuby, a North East-based manufacturer of baby products that has become a household name across the country and beyond.

Can you give us an introduction on who you are and what your company does?

“Nuby is a global manufacturer of baby, toddler and back-to-school products. The brand was started in 1970 and is still a family run business today.

“The UK head office is based in Boldon and has been operating in the UK for 10 years, now employing over 40 people.”

What has been your biggest achievement of 2019?

“Our biggest achievement this year has been the move to new offices, combined with the integration of a new warehouse operation and the creation of a new logistics team.

“It was quite a lot to take on in one go and we are really proud of how everyone in the business helped make it happen in a very short period of time.”

If you could go back to the start of 2019 and tell yourself what you know now about your business, what would you say?

“We would remind ourselves that the market is changing faster than ever and nothing will stand still this year.

“The retail landscape will be very different at the end of the year to the start, so be prepared to move quickly to take advantage of all the new opportunities this throws up.”

What are your company’s plans for the new year (and decade) ahead?

We have grown very quickly in the past few years and keeping up with this growth in all areas of our business has been demanding.

“Our plan next year is to have a year of consolidation to embed our new infrastructures and optimise our efficiencies.

“This will mean focusing on a few key strategic launches that will reinforce our recent market gains.”

How are you going to celebrate Christmas this year?

“Nuby is all about working hard and playing harder!

“When we moved to our new offices we made sure there would be plenty of space for a dance floor and a party room.

“When we clock off this Friday we’ll be putting our party facilities to good use with a live band, great food and some fun surprise entertainment in the usual Nuby way!”
