York developer expands Northern footprint with new Manchester hybrid-hotel scheme

A Yorkshire-based property and development company has secured planning permission for a hotel project in the North West.

S Harrison has been granted planning permission and negotiated a 20-year lease with international hotel group Meininger for a 212-bedroom hybrid-hotel scheme in Manchester city centre.

Located on Great Ancoats Street in the New Islington area of the city, the 12-storey development will comprise a mix of rooms including doubles, private multiple-bed rooms and dormitories.

In addition, the hotel will feature a reception, lobby, lounge, breakfast room, and bar, as well as a guest kitchen and a games zone.

S Harrison, which has recently completed schemes in Lincoln for Travelodge, in Stratford for Hotel du Vin and in Edinburgh’s New Town for Malmaison, is keen to explore other development opportunities across Manchester.

S Harrison’s managing director, Ann Scott, commented: “Like Meininger, it’s our first scheme in Manchester.

“Attracting a unique operator like Meininger, and building a superb new hotel on such a prominent site, will deliver the last piece of development on this remaining parcel of land between the Fabrica office building to the North and residential developments to the South.”
