Education Giants Partner up to Fight Digital Skills Gap

National apprenticeship provider, Code, are working in partnership with Sunderland University with the aim of closing the digital skills gap within the North East and further afield.

According to Lloyds Bank UK Consumer Index 2018, 8% of UK residents (4.3 million people) were estimated to have absolutely no basic digital skills and with the ever-growing influence of technology in today’s workplace environment, this is something that simply must change. Offering a vast array of apprenticeships within the STEM industry, industry leader Code, (Centre of Digital Excellence) looks to tackle the digital skills gap, head-on. Founder and owner, Simon Howatson had this to say, “the issue created by the digital skills gap is something that cannot be overlooked. We, (Code) truly believe that we can make a difference to our region and hope that businesses thinking of taking on apprentices can see this too.”

Code already acts as an apprenticeship providing recognised powerhouse within the region, securing in excess of £1 million worth of apprenticeship funding for its clients within the past 12 months. Previously working in conjunction with tech giants such as Google, code now has a partnership with the University of Sunderland, with both striving for apprentices to receive the highest level of digital training, working tirelessly to close the current skills gap. As part of their 2020 onwards strategy, code has also begun to expand their provision across other specialist sectors including construction, lean and project management.

This powerhouse partnership provides an incredible opportunity for those looking to add apprentices to their team to gain invaluable information on what potential apprentices can bring to their business and the difference this makes to our region.
