Housebuilders deliver £3m leisure centre investment
A new state of the art community leisure centre opens in Wigan this weekend, on the site of the former Standish golf club on Rectory Lane.
The two-story facility has been built by Persimmon Homes as part of a new housing development with the £3million investment delivered jointly by Persimmon and Morris Homes.
It will be operated by Inspiring healthy lifestyles, who also have centres in Selby and Staffordshire, and includes: • Health & Fitness o Gym with c. 40 stations o Fitness studio o Changing rooms • Pitches o 3G football pitches o 5 a side and 7 a side o Floodlighting and outdoor changing spaces • Multi-Use Games Area o Sport England standard MUGA for mini-tennis, tennis, netball, etc
Karl Wiseman, Director in Charge of Persimmon Homes North West, said: “We are absolutely delighted that the local community – including many of our customers – will finally get to see and enjoy the fantastic facilities at Standish Leisure Centre.
“We are confident that the leisure centre will enhance not only our housing developments but also the existing local area, contributing significantly to the quality of life through this high quality, modern building and the new facilities.”
The new leisure centre launches at 9.30am on Saturday, February 1.
