Big plans ahead for Darlington business
Darlington-based Stone Technical Services (STS) is undergoing a management restructure to allow for its expansion in 2020, with ambitious plans to grow the business by £1.6m and create around 10 new jobs over the coming 2-3 years.
Current managing director, Dave Stone, will become CEO while Richard Pavlou- who is STS’s business development manager- has been promoted to managing director. Dave’s brother, Grahame- who he established the business with 20 years ago- remains a director.
In addition, Paul Tinkler and Luke Stone have been promoted and Garry Donald re-joins the business as assistant contracts managers. Craig Jenkins will also be promoted becoming the company’s project manager.
STS has seen a record year of growth- as it marked its 20th anniversary last year- with turnover increasing by more than 10% to around £3.4m.
Bosses attribute the company’s success to its diverse divisions specialising in lightning protection, facilities management and building maintenance and heritage restoration and conservation.
In the last few months, STS has recruited three new apprentices as it continues its work to encourage young people into the sector. The company is currently recruiting stonemasons and construction operatives to add to its 50-strong team at its Darlington HQ.
Darlington brothers, Dave and Grahame Stone, established Stone Technical Services in 1998 which is based on Kellaw Road in Darlington with offices in London and Edinburgh.
Dave Stone said: “2019 marked our twentieth anniversary and has seen us increase our turnover steadily. We’ve also secured a number of new clients all over the UK.
“This restructure is an important step for STS as I take on a more client-focused role and manage a range of exciting projects.
“It’s great to be able to promote staff that have been with us many years and shown us commitment so big congratulations to all involved.”
STS works with organisations including INEOS, English Heritage, the National Trust, councils and churches across the UK, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Lambton Estate in County Durham and York Museum’s Trust.
