CQC green light for final phase of Keighley hospital

Enhanced Community Healthcare Options Group (ECHO) has received registration from the Care Quality Commission for Shelton House, the final phase of its Malsis Hall specialist care service, near Keighley, Yorkshire with all 51 beds now open. New services are assessed to check they are likely to be safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The assessments can include site visits, interviews with key managers and a detailed review of how the service will be run. Shelton House offers four eight-bedded hospital suites, focusing on engagement and individual needs. In addition to Shelton House, Malsis Hall itself has six bedrooms and one apartment that provides a care home setting with nursing. Frost House and Pullen Cottages provide 12 self-contained apartments, with or without nursing input, for more independent living to support a seamless transition into the community. Malsis Hall was designed to be a local service for local people and will be accepting referrals from local authorities and the NHS referrals within a 30-mile radius. It is working to ensure staff are recruited from the local area and aims to use suppliers from within the vicinity of the service. The team at Malsis Hall will provide a holistic approach to care, with the person’s care needs reassessed regularly, to ensure that personalised treatment goals are met, and the experience of community living is maximised. People using Malsis Hall will be encouraged to develop and maintain social contacts in the area in order to aid their recovery, an initiative ECHO is confident the local community will welcome and support. Close links will be made with local community groups and facilities and this will be reciprocated as Malsis Hall is providing meeting spaces for local groups and football pitches for use by Sutton Juniors.
Lisa Gardner, Service Director at Malsis Hall, said: “We have created a truly exceptional specialist service at Malsis Hall and delighted that the Care Quality Commission has now registered all our beds.

“Malsis Hall and its services have been received very positively by local commissioners. We look forward to working closely with them to place individuals who will gain great benefit from our specialist support as they strive towards living as independently as possible.”
