Bolton entrepreneur responds to Summer Economic Statement
Gareth Smyth, CEO of Hilton Smythe Group, said: “The chancellor’s focus on the high street was welcome, particularly investing in infrastructure to make the areas more appealing, the cut in VAT, and the eat out to help out discount. We work with many businesses in hospitality that have really struggled during the lockdown and I hope these schemes will help them to bounce back and give customers the confidence to use them again.
“I would have liked to see a little more focus on supporting entrepreneurs or those who wish to buy a business on their own road to recovery. An incentive for people who don’t see their future in being employed by someone else, but as someone who could potentially create new jobs as they grow and develop, would have been very welcome.
“The chancellor’s move to scrap stamp duty for homes up to £500k will be most welcome for homeowners, however this could also be extended to those looking to buy a business. I hope this will be considered in the full budget in the autumn.”
