Former Newcastle BT depot transformed into residential development
Work is underway on a new housing development at a former telecoms site east of Newcastle city centre.
Karbon Homes has partnered with Esh Construction to construct 25 new affordable homes close to Fossway in Byker.
Situated on Roman Avenue, the scheme will provide 17 houses with a combination of semi-detached and terraced properties and eight flats.
The site, which was previously used as a depot for telecommunications giant BT, will also comprise 34 parking spaces, and a secure bike shed for every home. Karbon has plans to install an electric charging point on the development for electric and hybrid vehicles
Vince Walsh, development manager for Karbon Homes, commented: “This is a really well located site, on the edge of an existing residential area, and close to employment sites, shops and both bus and Metro routes.
“We’re pleased to be able to bring it forward to deliver.a range of affordable homes.”
Gary Dobson, divisional director at Esh Construction, added: “The current climate has brought into sharp focus the importance of having a safe and comfortable place to call home.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Karbon Homes on this development to provide high quality, modern and much needed affordable homes in Newcastle.”
