Sunderland STACK launch postponed due to “extenuating circumstances”

A new leisure destination set to open in Sunderland in time for the August Bank Holiday weekend has announced its launch has been delayed.

STACK Seaburn, which was set to open this coming weekend, will now officially launch on Friday September 4 instead.

100 new roles are expected to be created at the site, which will feature a range of street food from local vendors as well as bars.

The venue has said that “extenuating circumstances” such as the weather conditions and a ‘tight schedule’ have meant that the opening must be delayed.

In a statement today the firm commented: “Delivering the scheme on time, for the Bank Holiday weekend, was always a tight schedule, but having put this back from the planned opening in May due to lock down, we really wanted to get open so that people could start socialising again in a safe open-air environment.

“We regret to announce that we have been forced to make a very difficult decision and will be postponing the opening of STACK Seaburn to Friday 4 September at 5pm.

“We are devastated that STACK Seaburn won’t be opening this weekend, but we have to act in a responsible way to ensure the health & safety of our contractors, staff and customers.”
