New wagons keep it in the family

A leading North East waste management and recycling company has expanded its fleet with a 200k investment.

Sunderland-based Thompson Waste Centre has purchased two new Iveco skip wagons to add to its eight strong fleet.

And, as the purchase coincides with the company’s 60th anniversary, the entire livery has been redesigned and painted to mark the occasion.

A family-run business, Thompson Waste Centre, at The Parade, provides a range of waste, skip and ‘roro’ (roll on, roll off) container hire services for residential and commercial customers, including builders and tradesmen, throughout the construction industry.

Managing director Anne Ganley said the extension to the fleet was positive news on several fronts, not least the regional economy and the environment.

“Two new wagons – which I have named after my daughters, Gemma and Helena - mean two more drivers,” she said, “and for each wagon we also need an operative back at the yard, so that’s four jobs straight away.

“But, equally importantly, by reinvesting our profits back into the business we are in a stronger position for future growth.”

The purchase of the wagons comes on top of a £50k investment in 50 additional skips last month.

And earlier this year Thompson Waste Centre invested £250k in a new hook lift loader and a Dooson loading tractor.

Like the Dooson and at least 80 per cent of the company’s existing fleet, the new wagons have low carbon emission engines.

“Our environmental impact is at the top of our agenda, if we are going to help tackle climate change “ said Mrs Ganley.
