Leeds' Nexus to become birthplace of new international renewables platform

A team of global specialists in alternative energy and emissions reduction has joined an innovation hub in Leeds.

Liber Larus has chosen Nexus, the University of Leeds’ innovation centre, as its new base from which to develop an international platform for the renewables sector.

Established by Dr Yanlong Wu, his wife Dr Jiang Yang and former supervisor Dr Hu Li, associate professor at the School of Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Leeds, Liber Larus specialises in top-level knowledge exchange for researchers and technical consultancy for businesses.

As part of its expansion, the firm is also developing its own product portfolio of innovations for the energy conservation and environmental management industries.

Dr Wu explained: “As a Nexus community member, we have access to an incredible support network as well as vital advice, introductions and partnerships to help grow our business.

“We’re looking forward to being able to use the physical space at Nexus for research forums, group seminars and conferences in the future, but even without that, the Nexus team are providing invaluable support tailored to our very specific business needs.”

Dr Martin Stow, Nexus director, commented: “We’re delighted to welcome Liber Larus as our first Community member for 2021. Dr Wu and his team have an unrivalled reputation for excellence in their sector and are supported by world-class experts across the University of Leeds.

“The team provides technical consultancy and product development expertise in areas which are critical for society and how we protect our environment and for the economy and how we manage our energy resources.

“We wish them every success and are looking forward to providing every support we can to help them to meet their business goals.”

On choosing Leeds for the project, Dr Wu added: “Leeds is a great place to do business, particularly in the technology sector.

“I took my Masters in energy and the environment at the University of Leeds and there is an incredible array of world-class expertise there, as well as international-level support in financial and professional services based in the city.

“We will take the Liber Larus concept to other UK cities, but it will be born and nurtured in Leeds.”
