Malhotra Group moves to new HQ

A leading North East PLC has moved to new headquarters at Newcastle’s most prestigious street.

Malhotra Group PLC, has moved its head office to 50 Grey Street, following a redevelopment costing in excess of £1.5m

The historic building was purchased around three years ago for more than £4m and will be home to all 60 of the company’s head office staff once lockdown restrictions are lifted.

Behind its historic façade – which has been sympathetically restored - the building, which will now be known as ‘Malhotra House’, features a state-of-the-art interior.

This includes a reception area with a ‘living’ wall and acoustic board feature walls, a 48ft chandelier rising up through the full height of the four-storey internal staircase and a monochrome design scheme featuring large-scale images of famous Tyneside landmarks such as Grey’s Monument.

Facilities include executive suites, two executive boardrooms, meeting rooms, a design studio, shower facilities and two, modern fully fitted break-out areas for staff.

The move means that this historic four-storey building is fully occupied for the first time in many years.

Malhotra Group PLC has relocated into the office accommodation on the upper two floors – consolidating their previous sites, at Groat Market and Scottish Provident House.

Italian restaurant Zizzi will continue to operate from the ground floor and the Group has let the first floor of the building to Lloyds Bank.

The construction office continues to operate from the famous landmark former Parrish’s Store at Shields Road, which is also owned by the Group.

Grey Street is hailed as the most beautiful in Britain with its many examples of Georgian architecture. The Group already owns several buildings on the famous street including the boutique Grey Street Hotel and Leila Lily’s, which was brought back to its original glory in 2020.

Due to Covid-19 the Group’s original plans to develop the new Grey Street Hotel have been delayed, however work will commence later this year on 1 Mosley Street and Market Lane/Monkey Bar, coupled with a pop-up bar at the iconic Balmbras which is already under way.

Group Chairman, Meenu Malhotra, said: “On a practical level, the move enables us to consolidate our Head Office operation to one, centrally located site.

“On a personal note, it embodies our commitment to preserving the heritage of the City Centre, while always looking forward optimistically to the future.”

Malhotra Group PLC owns some of Tyneside’s most popular hotels, bars and restaurants, along with a nationwide commercial property portfolio and high quality care facilities in the region under its Prestwick Care and Malhotra Care division.
