Science tech company announces partnership with Yorkshire university with aim of boosting regional growth

A science tech company has announced a partnership with a Yorkshire university as it aims to boost business growth in the region.

Bruntwood SciTech and Leeds Beckett University hope their partnership will support long-term sustainability, growth, and success by building a culture of innovation within start-ups and SMEs across the Leeds City Region and Yorkshire.

Both entities hope to do so through access to academic consultancy, student and graduate work placements, and providing established expert business support services and mentoring, amongst other things.

The partnership will operate from Leeds city centre’s ‘Home of Tech’, Platform, where more than 100 digital and tech businesses are based. The collaboration will also support Leeds Beckett’s network of University Business Centres in Halifax, Wakefield, and Headingley.

Professor Peter Slee, vice chancellor of Leeds Beckett University, said: “Our new partnership with Bruntwood SciTech here in Leeds demonstrates our shared commitment to driving innovation in the region.”

He continued: “Together, we will create a new engaging and innovative environment in the heart of Leeds for our students, graduates, and academics to come together with entrepreneurs across the city.”

Deb Hetherington, head of innovation at Bruntwood SciTech – Leeds, said: “We are committed to supporting our businesses through their ambitious growth journeys, and a large part of that support comes from our extensive partner network.”

She continued: “Leeds Beckett University offers a wealth of SME support that has already added value to the start-up community at Platform. We are excited to continue to work together to support the city’s ambition to grow its culture of innovation.”
