New supermarket to create 35 jobs in Sheffield suburb under detailed plans

A raft of new jobs are set to be created in a suburb of Sheffield under plans for a new supermarket.

Property developers Morbaine Limited and Ackroyd & Abbott have submitted detailed plans to Sheffield City Council to construct a new Lidl food store off Lane End in Chapeltown, following the granting of outline planning permission by the authority last year.

In addition to the new store, which would create 35 jobs, a new fenced woodland area will be created on the site.

The proposal also includes direct pedestrian access off Thorncliffe Lane as well as a new pedestrian crossing on Lane End.

Keith Nutter, director at Morbaine, commented: “When we launched our plans back in April 2019, we discussed the proposals with local people including those residents who live next to the site.

“Having listened to their concerns, we have spent significant time and resources planning the layout of the site to arrive at a scheme which we believe delivers maximum environmental benefits and minimises any future impact on local residents.

“In fact, the dense landscaping areas proposed, which includes the planting of over 45 new trees, will mean that much of the store will be screened from view.”

A spokesperson for Lidl GB added: “We have been searching for a suitable site in Chapeltown for more than a decade and are therefore extremely excited about the prospect of opening a new store on Lane End which will provide an enhanced shopping experience for the local community whilst delivering our range of high quality and affordable produce.

“Our plans are set to create around 35 jobs, which would be fantastic for the local area and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support so far.”
