Newcastle International Airport secures new route to 'major' European financial hub
One of the North East’s main airports has secured a new route to a financial hub in the heart of Europe.
Newcastle International Airport has added a new daily service to Frankfurt in Germany to its schedule through European airline Lufthansa.
The new route will enable North East passengers to travel any day of the week directly to the city, which has one of the world’s largest stock exchanges.
Nick Jones, chief executive of Newcastle International Airport, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Lufthansa back to Newcastle International Airport and it is fantastic news for the North East and beyond that the airline will be operating this new daily service to Frankfurt.
“The addition of this route not only provides a new direct destination, but also access to another major global hub for the North East public from the Airport.
“Frankfurt Airport feeds directly into Lufthansa’s extensive onward connection network and will give passengers even more opportunity to travel to destinations across Europe and the wider world. This will help to support the restoration of crucial global connectivity from the region as we look to compete in the future.”
Andreas Köster, senior director of sales UK, Ireland & Iceland at Lufthansa Group, added: “We can offer a huge connectivity as we take advantage of our hub system in Frankfurt. Lufthansa can provide more than hundred connections beyond Frankfurt to all relevant destinations world-wide, just with one single transit.
“We are very happy to return this upcoming summer, reconnect Newcastle International Airport to our huge network and resume our connection for our customers in North East England.”
