New podcast reveals secrets to successful leadership

Business leaders Sir John Timpson, Hassan Damluji and Sir Peter Fahy among guests of The Inspiring Leadership Podcast

A new business podcast launched by challenger law firm gunnercooke has welcomed guests including the Deputy Director of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Chairman and Owner of Timpson, founder of DLA, and the former Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police.

The Inspiring Leadership Podcast is hosted by gunnercooke Co-Founder Darryl Cooke and aims to delve into the minds of successful businesspeople to understand what makes an inspiring leader. Topics include the role of CSR within business, the importance of mindset and how to have integrity in business, as well as learning from each of the guests’ careers and experiences.

Series one closed with a special episode looking back on the previous discussions and co-hosted by Sir Peter Fahy, former Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police. Peter talked about the importance of integrity in business: “it’s the gap between what you say you’ll do and what you actually do. The gap between an organisation’s vision statement and how it truly operates.” The episode also touches on culture in business. According to Peter “perks drive entitlement but don’t always drive culture”.

In another episode, Sir John Timpson of Timpson and Roger Lane Smith of DLA share their thoughts on the reasons for their success and the use of “Upside Down Management”.

For Hassan Damluji, episode two’s guest, Deputy Director of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and author of ‘The Responsible Globalist’, CSR is now an essential part of a job for employees. “If you want the best talent in your business, you need to tell your employees how they are helping with social issues.”

Darryl’s other interviews included psychology expert, author and motivational speaker, Damian Hughes, who hosts the popular ‘The High Performance Podcast’ with Jake Humphrey, and Alison Grade, author of the Penguin bestseller, The Freelance Bible. Following the positive reception of the podcast, gunnercooke is currently planning its second series of talks with more inspiring people from the world of business, innovation and philanthropy.

Darryl Cooke is also encouraging business leaders to come forward as guests: “These podcasts aim to learn from the very best. I’m speaking to some of the most influential thought leaders, coaches and experts in business and psychology. If you’re an inspiring leader doing something different with your business, whether that’s a unique culture, industry leading CSR, or driving innovation and thought leadership, I welcome you to get in touch and share your wisdom.
