CyberFest is back for 21

The North East’s biggest cyber security festival is back again for another year, even bigger and better than before. It will be a fantastic demonstration of the region’s dynamic and exciting cyber security sector.

Throughout September we have fourteen events lined up with something for everyone, whether you work in cyber security, have been affected by it or are interested in it as a future career.

All of the events are FREE to join. All are online and a few are onsite as well. Tickets are available here.

What can you expect this year?

  • 7 September - Cyber security in a rapidly changing world, looking back at some high profile cyber attacks, what really happened and how the human element can be the biggest issue to address.

  • 8 September - Innovating In Cyber Security Through Art, working with Creative Fuse NE we will be looking at how art and technology can work together further to enhance innovation, improve understanding and help communicate seemingly technical issues, such as cyber security, to a broader audience.

  • 9 September - The new National Cyber Strategy and what’s happening across the North East, with speakers from the Cabinet Office

  • 10/11 September - The ever popular BSides, the weirdest InfoSec event out there. This year we go hybrid offering both the coverage of the virtual events and the opportunity for live events again.

  • 16 September - Cyber security and fraud, working with the North East Fraud Forum and North East Initiative on Business Ethics we’ll look at what is happening, what you can do about it and the ethics of your action or inaction.

  • 16 September - Cyber Eyes Wide Open, an interdisciplinary project to explore how collaborations between art and technology can play a vital role in expanding public understanding of how the increasingly complex cyber threat can impact our lives. At this event we will present the works created through collaboration between art and industry.

  • 21 September - Building a cyber security business, a workshop for those thinking about doing just that.

  • 22 September - Cyber Security Across Manufacturing, Industry and Supply Chains, the use of technology is fundamental to the growth of the manufacturing and industrial sectors. But how do we make sure that the technologies are applied in a way that is secure, not only within the manufacturing process but across the whole supply chain?

  • 22 September - A region of growing cyber security innovation, the North East is home to innovative cyber security companies. In this event, we hear from three of the newest companies around.

  • 23 September - Cyber security skills and employment opportunities, what is happening in the North East and nationally to help people choose cyber as a career.

  • 28 September - Cyber security – It’s a rural issue as well, one that doesn’t respect borders

  • 29 September - Cyber security for children and young people. Cyber hygiene for children and young people has never been a more important issue. How can we help them to stay safe online?

  • 30 September - The season finale, celebrating all that is great about the cyber security sector in the North East.

Cyber security is not just a problem for the IT department, it affects us all.

If you are in business, academia, a cyber security student, a cyber security professional, a parent, in childcare, interested in arts and creativity, looking for a career change or just interested in cyber security then there is something for you at #CyberFest21.
