Rooftop San Francisco venue spells expansion for London restaurant
A London restaurant has announced that it is opening a new rooftop venue in the centre of San Francisco.
Chotto Matte, which has a London flagship as well as Miami and Toronto branches, is further extending its reach into the US with the new Union Square restaurant, which will be on the rooftop of the former Macy’s department store.
The new restaurant will span 16,500 sq ft and is set to open in 2022, offering views across the Bay Bridges and Twin Peaks.
The brand specialises in Nikkei cuisine, which blends Japanese and Peruvian culinary traditions, with an open sushi counter, wine display, and live DJs at its locations.
The new site was secured for Chotto Matte by leisure and property agency Shelley Sandzer.
Kurt Zdesar, founder of Chotto Matte, commented: “We are delighted to continue our expansion plans for Chotto Matte internationally. We cannot wait for the new phase of growth to allow more people to experience the very best of authentic innovative Nikkei cuisine, in stylish architectural spaces across the globe.
“Shelley Sandzer has been the perfect partner for our US expansion plans, with their understanding of our business and ambition matched by market knowledge, contacts and energy that are second-to-none. It has been a winning combination that has secured the best location in San Francisco.”
Philip Sandzer of Shelley Sandzer added: “We are very excited to have secured a unique site for Chotto Matte’s debut on the West Coast of America. The prime location atop the first new building in Union Square for decades attracted significant international interest, but our persistence and Kurt’s passion for his business prevailed.
“This is going to be one of the most significant openings in the USA next year, and marks the beginning of a great partnership between Chotto Matte and Shelley Sandzer.”
