Therabody launches new program targeted at period pain relief

Global tech wellness brand, Therabody, has released a new program targeted at providing pain relief from menstrual cramps.

The Period Pain Relief Program for PowerDot provides an alternative solution to more common methods of period pain relief that can have long-term effects on the body. Up to 25% of people do not experience any sort of relief from anti-inflammatory drugs.

Research that dates back more than 30 years shows that the use of of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for period pain relief is beneficial. TENS is one of the two types of electrical stimulation used in PowerDot.

PowerDot is a smart electrical stimulation device that relieves pain and aids muscle recovery. The device stimulates the sensory and/or motor nerves to temporarily relieve pain and/or create a muscle contraction by sending an electrical current through the nervous system.

TENS uses an electrical current to stimulate the sensory nerves for therapeutic purposes. This stimulation suppresses the pain signals that are being sent to the brain to provide temporary pain relief. TENS can also relieve pain by stimulating the release of endorphins, which are “feel good” hormones produced by the body, acting as natural pain relief.

PowerDot’s Smart Recovery™ AI technology not only allows for the compact simulator to understand the user’s activity, but also connects to an intuitive mobile app that offers custom programs designed to address specific pain and recovery needs, including pad placement and recommended intensity settings, making personalized electrical stimulation attainable at-home, in the gym, or on-the-go.

Therabody has vowed to continue investigating the use of its solutions throughout the entirety of the menstrual cycle, whilst placing a focus on the health and wellness of menstruating people - seen as an underserved demographic in the research community.
