North East housing and employment support provider recognised by London training provider

Tyne Housing, a North East housing and support provider, has been recognised by CECOS College London in January, for helping people transform their lives.

Delivered every Monday, the two-hour session is taught by Tyne’s employment coach, Debbie Brown, who supported the development of three educational booklets - Employability, Engagement and Progression, and Better to Budget.

This session is also followed by a nutrition course, which explores the nutritional needs of individuals and how you can use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet.

The first set of learners have all passed the newly accredited courses and attended a graduation ceremony in February at Tyne Housing in Newcastle, where they were presented with their Employability Level 1 and Nutrition Level 2 certification by Professor Mark Mabey, Principle of CECOS College London.

Debbie said: “I have been delivering this programme to Tyne residents since 2019, but the only problem I was facing is that when residents completed the programme, there was no accreditation that could be officially recognised by potential employers.

“CECOS understands the importance of our programme and I’m thrilled that the booklets we developed are now used in conjunction with the Employability Level 1 course.

“The graduation was fantastic and we were delighted to welcome Professor Mark Mabey to Tyne. We’re extremely proud of our learners and will continue to support them going forward, as they look to put what they’ve learnt into practice.”

One such learner who received their certifications last month was Terry, a Tyne Housing resident who is already putting the skills gained from the employability course into use by attending his first interview.

Terry said: “The courses help you feel prepared for employment and are really worth taking up. I’ve already attended an interview for a job role as a hostel worker with Tyne and have learnt so much about nutrition and health that will support me in the future.”

Professor Mark Mabey, Principle of CECOS College London, said: “I was delighted and honoured to present the certificates to the learners at Tyne Housing last month. They have done so well achieving qualifications in Nutrition & Health and Employability Skills that will help them get into employment.
