Scott Bros supports Hemlington clean-up initiative

Recycling experts Scott Bros is supporting a community environmental initiative aimed at helping clean-up an area of Middlesbrough.

The Stockton-based firm is providing a skip in the area of the Viewley Hill Shopping Centre between 10am and 1pm this Thursday (April 14).

The idea is for people to dispose of unwanted items, such as fridges and freezers, with Scott Bros also recycling the skip’s contents.

The clean-up is a real community effort with organisations including Middlesbrough Council, Tees Valley Together, social housing provider Thirteen, Links Youth Project, Cleveland Police and Cleveland Fire Brigade.

Helping Hands will be providing Easter eggs for any youngster, who help with the clean-up. Volunteers will also be provided with tea and coffee.

Scott Bros offered its services after hearing about the initiative from Tees Valley Together (TVT), which was established to support the community during the pandemic.

TVT now has longer-term aims to bring groups together to deliver more services to benefit local people.

Peter Scott, a director of Scott Bros, said: “We are a family firm that likes to play a part in the wider community. When Tees Valley Together alerted us the initiative, which is part of Middlesbrough Green month, we were keen to find out how we could contribute.

“We were only too happy to help by providing a skip and recycling support for a waste disposal event in Hemlington. I would urge as many people as possible to take advantage of being able to easily dispose of unwanted bulky household items.”

Sharlein Smales, Tees Valley Together co-founder, said: “It’s a real joint-effort with a range of organisations, each of which have something to bring to the table to help with the clean-up.

“It is impossible to make a community greener and a pleasanter place to live without the the support of like-minded local individuals, organisations and companies.

“It is thanks to the efforts of a wide range of groups that a real difference is being made to protecting and improving local green spaces.”

Last year Scott Brothers helped Tees Valley Together clear and recycle a mountain of rubbish that was inside larger premises into which it was moving as demand for its services, which includes providing food parcels, collecting medication and delivering shopping, increased.
