This week’s round up of London appointments includes Jo Cowen Architects, Shakespeare Martineau & Browne Jacobson. Read on to find out more.

**Laura Cassullo, Jo Cowen Architects **

Jo Cowen Architects (JCA), one of the UK’s leading residential architecture practices, has appointed Laura Cassullo to the newly created role of strategic director.

Cassullo was previously Head of UK at Broadway Malyan, a role which she held for over two years. There, she led a team of over 130 architects, designers, masterplanners, and urban planners. Prior to that she was head of London, where the company is based, for six years.

Her appointment follows a period of growth at Jo Cowen Architects (JCA), which has been on a strong recruitment drive across all levels of the business. At JCA, Cassullo will focus on complex, residential-led urban regeneration schemes, building on the practice’s expertise in master-planning.

11 trainees, Shakespeare Martineau

Full-service law firm Shakespeare Martineau has welcomed 11 trainees its largest ever cohort including one in London. Camilla Uppal will be working from Shakespeare Martineau’s London hub, while Joseph Shields is the firm’s first Scottish trainee and will be based in Edinburgh.

The trainees will undertake four six-month seats in a variety of specialist practice areas across the firm, including real estate finance, commercial property, education, social housing and litigation.

Emily Cupi, early ambitions development adviser at Shakespeare Martineau, said: “We are delighted to welcome 11 trainees to the firm across a variety of regions, including our first in Scotland, and we are committed to ensuring they receive the very best start to their legal careers.

“Our trainees are our future and make a valuable contribution to the firm. We are proud to support them on their journey to becoming qualified solicitors; they are all extremely talented individuals and I have no doubt they will each be an asset to their teams and the firm.”

Many of Shakespeare Martineau’s current partners and lawyers qualified through its training contract programme, including partners Lisa Botterill and Andrew Wilkinson, who started as trainees in the 2000s when the firm was known as Harvey Ingram.

Emma Roake, Browne Jacobson

Browne Jacobson has bolstered its commercial practice in the UK with the appointment of commercial contracts and international trade specialist, Emma Roake, into its City-based London team.

The appointment follows Browne Jacobson’s opening of its first overseas office in Dublin in June, which is initially concentrating on developing a market-leading integrated end-to-end TMT practice, focusing on Digital Disruption, Data and IP. Emma will play a key role in helping to deliver a seamless service to the firm’s London, Dublin and international commercial client base.

Partner Declan Cushley, who leads Browne Jacobson’s UK&I TMT Group, and the firm’s London office commented: “Emma is a highly talented commercial lawyer with a real passion for the retail and consumer industry.

“Her appointment is significant for a number of reasons - not only will she bring a wealth of experience to our retail, fashion and consumer sectors, but she will also be a great boost to our current commercial profile in the UK, playing a strategic role in helping to build the bridge between our London and Ireland based commercial teams and enabling them to give clients what they need seamlessly across both jurisdictions.”
